View Article  Christmas isn't over yet??
what a christmas we've had so far!! we had christmas morning here with the kids... opened some presents, did the stocking thing, took lots of pictures... ephraim's first christmas, and he had absolutely NO idea!! keyzia opened most of his presents!

then we went to gramma's house in frankford for dinner with my side of the family... played some darts, ate way too much, opened still more presents!!

boxing day was the wolters' family in brighton, we sorely missed jessie.... and new year's day will be with jason's family here at our place....

so, here's hoping everyone had a fabulous christmas!!
View Article  slings and baby carriers...
i have this fabulous heart to heart sling that i used all the time with keyzia... until i was too pregnant to use it anymore, in fact!! and i've been using it with ephraim ever since he was just a newbie.

a sling is definitely my most useful and reliable baby item. these are some reasons it's good to "wear" your baby from Kelly's Attachment Parenting:

Using a baby sling can make life easier for you and is good for your baby. Following are some of the advantages of "wearing" your baby (from The Baby Book by William and Martha Sears):

It's convenient. You can breastfeed discretely in a sling while working, getting things done around the house, shopping or eating in a restaurant. If you have a baby who wants to be held all the time, this is an easy way to meet her needs while doing other things.
It helps moms care for older siblings. Carrying your baby in a sling can give you the mobility to care for your older children.
It helps some babies to breastfeed better. Some babies, particularly those who are tense or tend to arch their backs, breastfeed better while moving. Also, babies who are slow to gain weight (for no apparent reason) have been known to gain better if carried in a sling for several hours a day, since proximity to mom encourages babies to eat more frequently.
It reduces crying and colic. A 1986 study of 99 mother-infant pairs (reported in Pediatrics) showed that carrying babies at least three hours a day reduces crying and fussing 43% during the day and 51% at night. Babies are happier because they have less need to cry, and parents enjoy their babies more as a result.
It enhances learning. Carried babies have enhanced visual and auditory alertness, and increased "quiet alertness" times. Carrying a baby promotes cognitive development and speech development, since babies are exposed to more experiences and conversations.
Carried babies are involved in their parents' world. They participate in life, rather than see it as a spectator.
Carrying your baby promotes bonding and enhances parents' feelings of competence. A higher frequency of feeding and touching stimulates mothering hormones, and frequent carrying encourages and speeds the development of a mutual reading of each other's cues.

the problem with my sling, is that lately the one shoulder method of carry has been pulling on my already sore neck and shoulders. so, i've been browsing around, and i found this fabulous sling type thing that is actually just a long piece of material. the trick is in how you tie it. the difference here is that the baby is supported on both shoulders instead of just one. the problem with my slingis that my brain won't seem to let me wear it on the other shoulder!!

anyways, i'm going to give this new method a try, and i will keep you posted!
View Article  what?? slept through the night?
so, ja's alarm went off at 6:37 this morning, and after a brief panic thinking i lost the baby under the covers, i realized, HE HADN'T BEEN UP ALL NIGHT!!!! wow! and, even better, i slept right through too! usually i'm up a few times even when the kids do sleep through, so this was amazing! i truly give oursheepskin most of the credit for this! as soon as gramma gave it to us, ephraim started sleeping for long stretches. then he was sick, threw up on it, and we just cleaned it. during that brief time when we didn't have it, he was up every two hours!

on the downside, he thought it was time to get up and play at 6:30 this morning.
View Article  The beginning
What an amazing time of year.... celebrating the love of a God who loves us so much, he came to earth to experience all that we have to experience. because we could not remedy the distance from God that we had created through our sinful natures, he took it upon himself to take our sins and pay for them. Thus ensuring that as long as we accepted Him into our lives, we are ensured a spot in his heavenly house. the ultimate sacrifice begins here. in the birth of a son to a jewish virgin. the son who would die on a cross and forgive us.

imagine the shock of mary when an angel came to her and said, "Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favour with God. You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end." (Luke 1:30-33) i'm sure that thus far she had been a very good jewish girl, was betrothed to be wed to a good jewish man, and to suddenly find out she was pregnant? her faith that God was going to take care of her is astonishing, especially since she was so very young.

and yet, her only reply was, "I am the Lord's servant... May it be to me as you have said." (Luke 1:38) her faith is a testimony to us some thousands of years later. a faith to believe that God will always do as he says, and that he loves us so much. "For nothing is impossible with God." (Luke 1:37)
View Article  Ho Ho Ho!!
on saturday we took the kids to the sears christmas party in belleville. besides the horrible driving, keyzia and i had a great time crawling through the giant tubey/jungle gym/ball pit type thingy.... kind of reminiscent of what they have at macdonald's, only about 10 times the size.... she got to play with both momma and daddy in the ball pit, and sierra even joined us, although she wasn't too impressed with any of it... i think she may have been a bit overwhelmed.

keyzia had no trouble sitting on santa's knee.... that is, after she made sure that ephraim sat with him first. and she got an add on for her fisher price farm. all ephraim got was a lousy coupon from the studio for a freemontage. poor guy! no toys for ephraim! come on, sears, there are a million baby toys you could have given instead!
View Article  worst walmart trip ever.
i got there, got a spot really mega close.... in the first row! thought, this is great, ran into my friend tracy, got the stuff i needed, even went through the toy section... then, kids are starting to get fussy, so it was time to go.... and i hear... "attention all walmart customers, just to inform you that our debit machines are now down and we don't know when they will be working again." WHAT!!!! so, i hit their stupid machine, wait ten minutes to use it, and paid the extra 1.50, ephraim's now in my arms, keyzia is saying "out, momma", and i am about to have a nervous breakdown. try and find a line, they all suck, but i ended up behind my friend ange.... ephraim still crying, keyzia wanting to grab everything in sight, wanting her cuppa, try to get her some juice, all they have is pop. and on and on and on. finally about to pay, and keyzia knocks all the stupid at&t cards down (why do they put them on the exact level of the kids in carts???????????????????). pay, get everyone bundled up again, and some $%#@ head parked mega close to my car. pretty much had to put keyzia in sideways in order to get her in.

i am never going to walmart again. at least not without al!!!!!!
View Article  checker board type pattern....
i'm just about finished another scarf! i usedbernat denim style in the jordache colour, and i'm edging it inbernat cotton tots white. i think i'm going to fringe it in both the blue and the white.... just to make it interesting.

the pattern is fabulous though, it's really easy....

cast on 21 stitches
knit the first three rows
knit 3, knit 5, pearl 5, knit 5, knit 3
then knit 3, pearl 5, knit 5, pearl 5, knit 3
do this for as many rows as you want to (i did six rows)
then reverse it...
so,
knit 3, pearl 5, knit 5, pearl 5, knit 3
then, knit 3, knit 5, pearl 5, knit 5, knit 3

i edged mine in ten rows of single crochet, and then of course you need tassles!!

it looks kind of woven or checkerboard like when it's finished.... the lady at yarn ewetopia who taught it to me used two different wools held together.... also very pretty!!

hopefully i can post a pic later on!
View Article  it's hard to believe it's over...
over, that is, but not finished. our postpartum depression support group had it's last official meeting today. what a blessing that group has been! to be able to go to a place where there is no fear of being judged, where you can reveal your true feelings, trials, joys, and accomplishments to other women who have gone through some of the same things.... it has been amazing to watch my fellow women grow and get "better" throughout the group. from the beginning when we were all crying, to today when we were laughing and joking around, we all have grown so much.

i am so thankful for each of the women in the group, and for the leaders as well. and, i'm glad that we're still going to get together in the future too!
View Article  sick, blecchy blah...
sick kids, sick momma, tired daddy.... this is not good!! keyzia has a cold which she so kindly shared with me... although, i guess we have been working on sharing. ephraim was in emerg on sunday night for five hours, turns out he has an intestinal infection, poor guy. he was vomiting and pooping like crazy. i had to only nurse him for five minutes at a time yesterday every hour so that he would stay hydrated but not throw up! man, that was sure painful for me... oh well, i needed to pump for ja's christmas party on saturday night anyways!

so, that is my tale of woe. this is definitely the downside of parenting!

ps... thanks to al for the pic!
View Article  santa scared keyzia!
we were at the cobourg day care today helping out at their annual tea and bazare. ja dressed up as santa for the kids, and i took pictures... it was great fun!!

keyzia totally freaked out when she saw him... it was too funny. at first she just clung to me and refused to look at him, and then he made her cry.... whenever she was in the room with him, she made sure she knew where he was at all times!

i finally got her to sit on his lap, but only after i put ephraim there first. i guess she figured that if he tried anything, she could definitely run faster than poor phraim-bam!
